The short answer

Performance EDU Fitness in south Reno helps people rebuild strength after back and spine surgery through Bridging the Gap, our flagship program for clients who have completed physical therapy but still need expert support.

We coordinate with your physical therapist or medical provider when needed, and Kime Performance Physical Therapy shares our building. Every client starts with a movement evaluation, and training is 1-on-1 with progressions scaled to what your body can handle.

Client result

Three back surgeries. Stronger than before.

"After three back surgeries, I wasn't sure I'd hike again. With the help of the team at Performance EDU, I transitioned from physical therapy into strength training, and now I'm stronger than I was before my injuries."

Jean Hare, Performance EDU client
Why a coach, not a gym

Finishing PT is not the same as being ready.

After back surgery, the risk is doing too little and staying fragile, or doing too much too soon. Most people are not ready for a general fitness class the week PT ends. We carefully scale training intensity, coach form rep by rep, and monitor progress, with long-term health as the priority rather than short-term numbers.

What we train

Rebuilding from the trunk out.

Trunk and hip stability

Control of the spine and pelvis under load, built before heavier strength work.

Movement quality

Squat, hinge, lunge, push, pull, and rotate patterns, scored and cleaned up so you move without compensations.

Progressive strength

Loading added gradually as your body adapts, with coached adjustments every session.

Mobility

Hips, upper back, and shoulders, targeted to what your screen found. Every session ends with TableEDU on the table.

How it works

A careful path forward.

  1. Movement evaluation

Bring your surgical history and recent PT notes. We review your history, screen your mobility and movement, and set a safe starting point.

  2. Coordinated care

We coordinate with your physical therapist or medical provider when needed.

  3. 1-on-1 training

Individualized programming, never a generic post-rehab template.

  4. Re-test every 8 to 12 weeks

Measured progress in mobility, movement quality, and strength.

Common questions

Straight answers.

Can I work with a personal trainer after back surgery?

Yes, once your surgeon or physical therapist has cleared you for exercise. Our Bridging the Gap program is built for people who have completed PT after surgeries including spine procedures and need expert support to regain strength, mobility, and function.

What is the difference between physical therapy and return-to-performance training?

Physical therapy is clinical care: diagnosing and treating an injury and restoring function until you are out of pain. Return-to-performance training starts where PT ends, rebuilding the strength and control you need for daily life, hiking, skiing, or sport. Kime Performance Physical Therapy provides the clinical care in our building, and Performance EDU coaches take the handoff.

Do you coordinate with my physical therapist or surgeon?

Yes, when needed. Kime Performance Physical Therapy is in the same building, so if you are a Kime patient the handoff happens under one roof.

I have not had surgery yet. Can training help beforehand?

Yes. Our pre-surgery training program prepares people for spinal and other major procedures, ideally 4 to 8 weeks out.

Is this group training or 1-on-1?

1-on-1. You work directly with a coach for the whole session, in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions.

What if I live with chronic back pain but have not had surgery?

Chronic pain and mobility limits are part of who Bridging the Gap serves. Start with the movement evaluation, and if you need clinical care first, Kime PT is on site.

Your rehab got you here. We will take it from here.

Book your movement evaluation. We will meet you where your PT left off and build the strength to take you past it.
